ASU NAA CHAPTER OF THE MONTH (October 2020)

About the ChapterThe Tampa Bay Area Alumni Chapter was established in 1970.  The chapter supports the counties of Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco in FL.  The chapter currently has 10 dedicated active members, and 60% of the chapter’s membership is Life Members. Currently, Chapter meetings are held quarterly via teleconference.  The chapter is small, however, since its existence has consistentlysupported ASUNAA programs and activities.  Contact Information:

Chapter Awards/Recognitions:   The Chapter has not received any awards during 2010-2019.  However, Janice Carter-Collier was inducted into the ASUNAA Alumni Hall of Fame and in June 2012, William Cade was acknowledged by the ASUNAA for “Outstanding Achievement” as a member of the ASUNAA Board of Directors.

Community Service/ASU Projects:The Chapter participated in the inaugural ASUNAA Community Service Day Project in November 2019 by providing toiletries to Francis House and food to Metropolitan Ministries in Tampa, FL. The chapter participated in ASU Move-In Day in August 2019. The Chapter has actively participated in supporting the ASU Athletics Department by: (a) Providing refreshments for the ASU Baseball team during their participation in at least three (3) baseball tournaments hosted by the University of Tampa; (bProviding funding for textbooks to the ASU Golden Rams Football Team in September 2016; and (c) Hosting the ASU Coaches Caravan in Tampa. FL in May 2017.


Student Recruitment:
For the past seven (7) years, the Chapter has participated annually in six (6) college and career fairs held in Hillsborough, Polk, and Pinellas Counties. Three (3) of the college fairs are specifically for historically black colleges and universities. The recruitment efforts have resulted in an increase enrollment of students at ASU from the Tampa Bay area.

Fundraising Activities/Scholarships:  The Chapter has not conducted annual fundraising events but via donations from Chapter members, has contributed within the past five years over $12,000 to the ASU Foundation for the  following: (1) Textbooks for the ASU Golden Rams Football Team; (2) Rams in the Roses-ASU Band;  (3) Tom Joyner Foundations and (4) Need – Based Scholarships.
